FTP

FTP is short for File Transfer Protocol, the protocol commonly used for exchanging files between networks, including the Internet. It is a way for copying files from one computer to another, usually used in peer file sharing. FTP works the same way as HTTP for transmitting Web pages from a server to a user's browser and SMTP for transferring electronic mail crossways the Internet. FTP uses the Internet's TCP/IP protocols to enable data transfer. Anyone that downloaded from the internet has likely make use of an FTP application.
